Comfort Zone CZHV9B 9-Inch 3 Speed High Velocity Cradle Fan
Great fan, but be very careful!
This small fan in spite of its size packs quite a punch. It's so good that I have to put it on the medium setting because the highest setting is too strong. Another plus? Visually, it's very striking (it looks like a vintage model from 30s and 40s) and it's also quite sturdy.
In terms of build quality, the fan is excellent to a fault. I say "to a fault" because two weeks after I bought it I ran into a problem. One day when it was placed on the floor, it got tipped over. It was just a gentle tipover, but this caused the fan inside the metal cage to pop off. This in itself isn't much of an issue because technically you should just be able to unscrew the front plate when this happens and reinsert the fan. Instead I couldn't, because the cage was put together like a Sherman tank; the screws were on so tight that the fan may as well have been welded shut. So I had to get a screwdriver and a pen, slip them through the spaces, and try to pop the fan back into the motor. I was able...
Great fan with a tweek
Purchased one that was super quiet and worked well. Bought three more.
All three much louder than my original and one ran super fast on low speed. That one is going back.
On all three fans the blades were too far out on the spindle, ran a little wobbly and were noisy.
Take the front grill off, just 4 screws, pull the blade assembly off, reseat firmly on the spindle, turning the blades so they seat into the notch on the spindle. The blades probably come loose during trip from China. Runs like a charm, super quiet now. As they move a lot of air for the tiny size this little bit of work was well worth it.
Loud, loud, loud - ok for use in a noisy environment maybe..
Based on other reviews, maybe I got a dud. Quiet isn't how I would describe this fan. Quite the opposite. It has what I would describe as loud motor noise. I turned it on and off quickly at high setting to see if it was motor noise but it isn't. It's the fan blades chopping through the air. Not unlike the propeller from a powerful, electric remote control plane. ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. A loud continuous growl. Even at low speed.
I have a very similar fan with the Wind Chaser brand designation in my office. It is far quieter (I don't work for, profit from or even know who owns the Wind Chaser brand). There is no way I could use this in an office environment even at low speed due to the noise. I guess I'll use it in my garage or in an environment with a lot of background noise.
Another problem is the shallow depth. It is almost asking to be knocked over. The stand and cage are about half as deep as the Wind Chaser in my office. On the upside, it does move a lot of...
