Mezquite Tortilla Press



Works great!
I never knew there was such a thing until this particular model came in first in the test kitchen of Cooks Illustrated . . .so I bought one locally. I can't believe how quickly tortillas can be made with this . . .and it's heavy enough to do virtually all the work for you. All you do is roll the dough into a ball, place it on the wooden platform and lower the lever . . .the device's weight does all the work and almost instantly, you have a tortilla . . .or pita, naan or personal sized pizza. Absolutely LOVE it!

Works well, finish & fit are not as good as expected for high price
Works well, with a little practice. The finish & fit leave a lot to be desired for such an expensive item.

Great press for any kind of flatbread. I use it for corn tacos, gluten free tortillas and all forms of Naans, Chapattis and even GF pizza crusts. It's an attractive wood appliance that I am happy to display out on my kitchen hutch as I use it almost every day, sometimes twice a day -for breakfast burritos and dinner. There is nothing like fresh without the preservatives, etc.
As far as how long it will last? The block that stands upright on the side is loose - my DH says it should have been constructed with screws, not lame nails. There is a lot of force that goes into a large ball of stiff dough. But I hold it in whilst pressing -meanwhile my handy husband stands ready with the screws.
I was disappointed with how long it took to get to me. It seems the grocer did not get the order until I started questioning the whereabouts so someone (Amazon?) did not get the order rolling till a week after I ordered for some reason. But I am very happy that it saves me time (I used to...
